Amankwa-Manu slams Asiedu Nketia

DEPUTY DEFENSE Minister, Kofi Amankwa-Manu, has descended heavily on Asiedu Nketiah, the General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC).

He said Asiedu Nketiah’s recent call for slaps to be applied to make the standing orders of Parliament to work, was unfortunate and unnecessary.

According to him, considering Asiedu Nketiah’s status in society and the position he occupies in the largest opposition party (NDC), he should not have uttered such words.

Speaking to journalists during a public function at Atwima Kwanwoma Constituency, where he is the Member of Parliament (MP), he said Ghana needed peace to progress.

Amankwa-Manu also condemned people that have been spreading wild rumours of a possible coup to topple the NPP government to cause fear and panic in the country.

According to him, Ghana, especially the citizenry, suffered severely following past military coups, which distablized the country and also stagnated Ghana’s development.

“Ghana has seen it before and we all know how devastating it was, we lost precious human lives and it also retarded our country’s development,” the minister noted.

“We will not attract investors to invest here and support our economy if people continue to spread negative rumours of a possible coup and bloodshed”, he expressed concern.

According to the Deputy Defense Minister, the security agencies are ever ready to deal with any group that may have the intentions to stage a coup to topple government.

In this regard, he has urged the citizenry not to be afraid over calls of a possible coup in the country, stressing that nobody or group could use force to topple the government.

He was speaking during launching of the Kofi Amankwa-Manu Livelihood Development Project, which is aimed at providing a sustainable livelihood for thousands of youths.

As part of the project, the hard-working Lawmaker has presented 320 brand new sewing machines to some beneficiaries to enable them start the fashion module.
