The early morning down pour was not enough to deter hundreds of ardent supporters of the ruling New Patriotic Party supporters in the Amasaman Constituency in the Ga West Municipality as Akwasi Afirifa Mensah, the party’s parliamentary candidate filed his nomination forms.
Clad in party T-Shirts and other party paraphernalia, the supporters poured onto the streets of Amasaman in a float that preceded the submission of the forms to the Electoral Commission (EC) officials in the Municipal Assembly.
Drivers of private and commercial vehicles amidst tooting of horns stuck out their four fingers to indicate 4 more to do more for the party’s presidential candidate, Nana Akufo-Addo and Mr. Mensah.
The float saw the crowd swelling at every point in support of the vision of the man election watchers say is the obvious choice of the people.
Receiving the forms, the EC’s Returning Officer for the Amasaman Municipality, Mr. R. Womenor said, Mr Mensah has fulfilled the necessary requirements for the submission of the forms.
There was however, spontaneous jubilation in the Constituency when EC officials finally accepted the forms.
Briefing journalists, Mr. Mensah said he was enthused by the teeming crowd that had come on the float despite the heavy down pour that morning.
This, he stated was an indication of the party’s preparedness to snatch the seat from the National Democratic Congress ‘ (NDC’s) Parliamentary Candidate, Emmanuel Nii Okine Laryea who lost the primaries to one Sedem Afenyo.
Mr. Mensah assured the supporters of his continuous support stressing that he would not disappoint them when voted for in the December polls.
He said whether there’s any injunction on him or not the EC has accepted his nomination forms saying he’s not a party to any Court case.
Mr. Mensah said he would embark on rigorous campaign in order to emerge the first NPP parliamentary candidate for the Constituency.
He stated that the NDC has nothing to show for the number of years they occupied the Amasaman Parliamentary Seat.
The submission of the forms and relevant documents to the EC sets the tone for what party members insists is a smooth victory to parliament for the man they described as the man of the people.
Earlier, some disgruntled members in the Constituency had run to court seeking an injunction to scuttle the filling of the nomination.
