Amidu Would Fail If We Do Not Support Him
Martin Burns Kaiser Alamisi Amidu, the soon to be Special Persecutor would end up as a white elephant under an ‘elephant’ government unless as a people, we make a deliberate effort to support him, not by word of mouth but by deeds.
Truth is, if we all played our roles as citizens and not spectators in the anti-corruption crusade, there would have been no need for the office of a Special Prosecutor.
Corruption does not happen in a vacuum. It does not happen in isolation. It is impossible for corruption to thrive without the support of two or more persons.
There is always either a giver and a receiver or someone aiding and abetting for corruption to become successful. Corruption has a scent.
It is common to point accusing fingers at persons in political office or public servants as embodiments of corruption.
But in reality, corruption is more of a societal problem than a political one.
Until we make a genuine and honest commitment to expose and eradicate corruption, we would only be wasting our time with the expectations we have of Amidu and the office to which he has been nominated and about to be appointed.
This is not a fight between Martin Amidu and corrupt persons. It is not Amidu’s fight. It is Ghana’s fight with Amidu serving as a mere representative.
He, as an individual would not be the direct or biggest beneficiary if we eradicate or completely eradicate corruption from our system.
The beneficiaries of that fight would be us all as a society. It would lead to our country getting enough funds to wean ourselves from the dictates of the so-called donor-partners who pretend to have our concerns at heart bur end up fleecing us with their draconian terms and conditions.
We should not let this opportunity pass us by. It is time to change our story and make it a better one and we call on every well-meaning Ghanaian with a good heart to join the campaign.
As far as THE PUBLISHER is concerned, we are completely and absolutely committed to exposing evidence backed corruption.
We are a media house run by citizens and not spectators. Our role as watchdogs would never be compromised for political or religious colours and we are super excited at the assurances given we heard from the nominee Amidu yesterday.
He sounded as a no-nonsense character. We have no doubts that he would take the same attitude to his anti-corruption fight.
