Anas Needs Police Protection―GJA

For the past dozen days or so the bigotry and alarming conspiracy hauled at Ace investigative journalist Anas Aremeyaw Anas and his yet to be premiered investigative piece―Number 12 seems unending―death threats budding too.

It is for this reason that the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) has vowed not look on in despair as efforts to throw their colleague off balance builds momentum.

They have therefore requested 24-hour police protection for undercover journalist adding that Anas is too valuable to be lost.

Speaking on Accra based Class FM, yesterday, the president of the association, Mr Affail Monney confirmed the death threat on Anas’ life.

“We did speak to Anas himself who expressed concern about the attempt to eliminate him and that prompted us to do what we did… We felt we had a moral, constitutional and godly responsibility to rally in his defence and to urge the security apparatus to act with urgent promptitude to protect Anas,” he said.

Mr Monney continued: “All of us are at risk, we therefore ask the security agencies to act with the speed of light to make sure Anas’ safety is guaranteed at all times, his properties are guaranteed and everything about him should be enveloped in safety and security…. an attack against Anas is an attack against all of us and an attack against the media fraternity would be an attack against our democracy.”

Solidarity for Anas

If there is anytime for journalists to show how united they are, the GJA president says that ‘time is now’ adding that the thread of solidarity must run through them.

“As a member of the media community I believe our duty supersedes all others to show solidarity at this time when one of our own has set himself in a collision course justifiably with people with murderous intent and they shouldn’t be allowed to have their way,” he stated

Return To The Light

It had been reported that maverick politician, Mr Kennedy Ohene Agyapong had threatened to sack any journalist from his media empire―Kencity media, who would attend the premiering of Anas’ piece.

But Mr Monney says press men at Oman FM and Net 2 must bury their differences and join forces with other journalist to fight against the enemy of progress and enemies of light.

“Those who are following the line of Honourable Kennedy Agyapong, please come back to the side of light, to the side of sanity because when we allow ourselves to be divided we fall easy prey to forces of darkness,” he urged.
