Kwadwo Dickson, the celebrated Akan newsreader, who just left the Despite Group for Angel Broadcasting Network, has debunked rumours that he was poached with big cash by his current employers.
When he broke the news on social media a couple of months ago that he was leaving the Despite Group, where he had been reading the Akan news, many of his fans felt it was a bad decision.
Others also thought he had been snatched by a rival outfit with big money.
However, Kwadwo Dickson has told The New Publisher that, contrary to those perceptions, he was not poached by Angel Broadcasting Network and that he merely saw an opportunity and took it.
”I was not poached or anything like that. I just felt it was time for me to move on. The perception out there that money moved me to Angel is wrong. I decided to quit the place and co-ordinate my little businesses here in Accra. I have a recording studio, among other small businesses so I decided to come out and have enough time for my own business.
”When this happened, several radio stations approached me. Initially, I said NO, but later I decided to accept Angel Broadcast Network. When I looked at the prospects, they were good so I took the offer” he revealed.
The man, who is now the General Manager of Angel FM, said the decision to bring an end to his nearly two decades of work with Despite Group was very difficult, considering his bond with his several colleagues.
”To be honest, it was a tough decision for me. I will say without mincing words that leaving Peace FM was a difficult one. It was more like a home for me. I was treated with much respect with regards to work. As popular as Kwame Sefa Kayi was, he was a very down to earth person. The ”Mi Kwadwo Factor” was something extraordinary over there, and the amnesty of great bond too.
”In as much as it was not an easy decision, I felt it was time to move on and explore with my career. I thought about it, what would people say? What would be the message of cohesion to the public space, but HEY, I had to move on. Aside everything, everyone wants to grow in whatever he or she does” he said.
For now Kwadwo says his new home has been very good.
”So far, So good. The journey at Angel FM has been fruitful and amazing with wonderful people, which makes working with them very smooth. The owner is a positive driven person, I look forward to learning more and taking the station to another level” he stated.
The man with several years’ experience in reading news in the Twi Language has this to say about his new job:
”Angel FM is coming out with a new trend all together. The listeners have called for quality production and we promise to adhere to it. As a general manager and with the support from my able team, we’re doing something different from what the others are doing.
”Every morning, I would be reading the news, and soon after will be the Newspaper Review. Reporters of Angel FM are always on the runway to advice drivers on the sequence of traffic congestion. After the morning show at 9:00am, music will play till 12:00pm when the afternoon news comes on.
”There’s another popular programme called ‘Ogye Mmre’, which comes with other interesting and entertaining segments radio. Despite my role as General Manager, I am always in the newsroom coordinating the betterment of news delivery. I hardly sit in my chair” he added.
He further advised all up and coming presenters to be humble and to learn hard to be able to reach greater heights.
Kwadwo is also known for the many commercial jingles he has recorded for top companies in Ghana, many of which are currently being played on over a dozen radio stations across the country.
As part of ways to improving society and Ghana to a better level, Kwadwo Dickson said Angel FM intend embarking on Sanitation project to improve on the sanitation conditions of each metropolis.
The Project according to him which would be launched soon would be aimed at increasing access to safe and sustainable sanitation to the residents of the Greater Accra Metropolitan Area (GAMA), targeting the urban and peri-urban poor residents.
According to him, the project is expected to impact positively on the health and human productivity, thus, contributing to the socio-economic well-being of the people within the country.
He further called on companies and individuals to support the agenda in terms of sponsorship among others.
