Hand on Heart Foundation, a Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) has rendered support to inmates living with infectious diseases at the Ankaful Prison in the Central Region.
The NGO on Sunday, April 10, presented some medical supplies and organized a health screening for the inmates.
Amongst the items presented were methylated spirit, carbolic soap, cotton wools, gauze, nifedipine, and others.
The CDP is one of the prison facilities in Cape Coast, designated to house prisoners who have infectious diseases such as tuberculosis (TB) Hepatitis A and B and other skin infections.
Located within the Ankaful Prison Complex, it was built to hold this category of prisoners mainly to prevent the spread of infectious diseases amongst the general prison population.
According to the President and founder of the foundation, Mr. Thomas Kirk Mensah, they saw the need to assist after they visited the prisons last year.
“This forms part of the foundation’s social responsibility to restrict inmates of various prisons out of deplorable conditions,” he added.
Receiving the items, the Chaplain of the facility expressed gratitude for the gesture and appealed to society to come to the aid of the inmates.
