Anlo Chiefs petition Speaker over “daughter of murderer” comment

Traditional authorities of the Anlo Kingdom in the Volta Region have given Parliament a 5-day ultimatum to identify which Member used the expression “Daughter of a murderer, sit down! Daughter of a murderer, sit down!”, – an expression- they believe was made in reference to Dr. Zanetor Agyeman-Rawlings, biological daughter of the late former President Jerry John Rawlings.

“The Overlord of Anlo Dukor, Togbi Sri III and the Chiefs and people of the Anlo Dukor are furious about the unfortunate development in the august house and are desirous of identifying the Member of Parliament who made the disparaging remarks against the son of Anloland to help us advise ourselves as to the next step to take.

“The Anlo Dukor will be grateful if our request is granted and the said individual is identified on or before 10th of February, 2025”, and  official petition addressed to the Speaker of Parliament, Rt. Hon. Alban S.K. Bagbin which appeared on the letter head of the Anlo Dukor  Council noted.

The petition dated Wednesday February 5, 2025 was signed by Togbi Agbesi Awusu III,  the Awadada of Anlo Dukor acting on behalf of the Awoamefia, Togbi Sri III, the Overlord of the Anlo Dukor and also on behalf of the Chiefs and people of Anloland.

During proceedings on the floor of Parliament on Tuesday February,  there was a little bit of a noisy situation  and mutual heckling among Members when a male voice was heard shouting, “Daughter of a murderer, sit down! Daughter of a murderer, sit down!”

By then, the Minority Leader, Alexander Afenyo–Markin,  was on his feet speaking and calling for restrain among Members.

Several of the Members from the Majority side, including Dr Zanetor Agyeman Rawlings, had also sprang to their feet waiting to catch the Speaker’s eyes when the unidentified male voice was heard screaming “Daughter of a murderer, sit down! Daughter of a murderer, sit down!”

Though Members could not immediately agree on who exactly made the said remarks, it was believed to have come from the Minority side.

No one has owned up to it and the search for the owner of the voice is in full swing.

Second Deputy Speaker, Andrews Asiamah was presiding when the incident occurred.

 PETITION TO HELP IDENTIFY THE MEMBER OF PARLIAMENT WHO UTTERED THE BLASPHEMOUS WORDS TO WIT “SHUT UP – “YOU DAUGHTER OF A MURDERER” – DURING THE APPROVAL SESSION OF VETTED MINISTERS ON TUESDAY 4TH FEBRUARY, 2025

I hereby petition your esteemed office in my capacity as the Awadada of Anlo Dukor acting on behalf of the Awoamefia, Togbi Sri III, the Overlord of the Anlo Dukor and also on behalf of the Chiefs and people of Anloland.

 It will be recalled that during the approval session of Hon. Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, there was a heated fury furore in Parliament that evening.

 In the state of the furore, Ghanaians and other persons all over the world who were glued to their T.V sets and listening on their radio sets heard an Honourable member shouting defamatory and obscene words to wit-shut up – “you the daughter of a murderer” ostensibly as said at Hon. Zanetor Agyeman Rawlings who is the eldest daughter of the illustrious son of Anloland and a former President of the Republic of Ghana.

 Our information pointed earlier to Hon. Abu Jinapor, a Member of Parliament for Damango Constituency in the Savanna Region and one Hon. Nana Kwame Asafo-Adjei, MP for Bosome Freho.

 Both have denied being the authors of the alleged obscene and defamatory words.

 The Overlord of Anlo Dukor, Togbi Sri III and the Chiefs and people of the Anlo Dukor are furious about the unfortunate development in the august house and are desirous of identifying the Member of Parliament who made the disparaging remarks against the son of Anloland to help us advise ourselves as to the next step to take.

 The Anlo Dukor will be grateful if our request is granted and the said individual is identified on or before 10th of February, 2025.
