Anyaa Saves Korle Bu Gh₵100,000 Monthly
Staff of the Korle-bu Teaching Hospital has showered praise on Dr. Felix Anyah, Chief Executive Officer of the hospital for gradually transforming the hospital.
According to the staff, the hospital which almost collapsed under the previous NDC administration due to the breakdown of its oxygen plant now has enough oxygen for patients.
In an interview with the Publisher, chairman of the senior staff Association of the hospital, Charles Offei-Palm, revealed that the hospital was previously purchasing oxygen from private sources, spending close to Gh₵100,000 every month.
According to him, the past administration refused to fix the broken down oxygen plant, and preferred buying from private sources due to corrupt reasons.
“Somebody did not want to fix it because they were taking their 10 percent”, he said.
He hinted that, Dr. Anya, two months after his appointment, voluntarily spent€3,700 to get foreign engineers from Novair to restore the oxygen plant and also train the technical team of the unit on how to maintain the plant.
The hospital has since fixed the broken oxygen plant and can now boast of four oxygen plants.
“Oxygen which used to be a scarce commodity at the hospital leading to several deaths is now flowing to all wards and departments thereby relieving staff of shortages and delays in getting oxygen for clinical purposes”, he said.
.A technical person at the gas unit of the hospital disclosed to the paper that 4,170 oxygen filled cylinders are currently being used at the hospital with constant flow of oxygen through the main pipelines to departments and wards.
“As we speak now, ever since we started from June 16 up to September 30th, we have filled 4,170 oxygen cylinders. The one that goes through the pipelines are twice than what we fill in the cylinders”, he disclosed.
