Mr Charles Osei Assibey, President of the Ghana Arm-wrestling Federation (GAF), has said the Arm-wrestling Championship which is set to begin on July 26 to 29, at the Hathramani Hall at the Accra Sport Stadium would be a mega sporting event and not just a championship.
He said, though they have limited time towards the start of the event, Accra is ready to host the rest of Africa and they are working hard towards putting up a great sport fiesta that would help promote Arm-wrestling, which is one of the fastest growing sport in Ghana.
This championship is the first of its kind to be hosted by Ghana with over 150 athletes from 14 African countries participating.
“We just have some few days to go, Accra stands ready, GAF is ready and I think that this is the most promoted event ever in Ghana. We told Ghanaians that we were going to host Africa and we are working hard.
“With some few days to go, everything is set and the world Armwrestling federation General Secretary would be in town, the President for the continent and other top officials would be in town.
The Malian team would be the first to arrive in town, Nigeria is also coming with a strong contingent, Cameroon, Egypt and other African countries are coming.
“We are set and we have promised them an event and not just a championship” he said.
He further outlined the activities for the up-coming Championship which includes, paying courtesy call to the Ministry of Youth and Sport.
“We would paying a courtesy call on the Minister of Youth and Sports and the Mayor of Accra when our top officials arrive. On Thursday we shall have the weigh-in and registration, referees seminar and the congress for the African Arm wrestling would take place on Thursday and on Friday the battle would begin” he ended.
