Mikel Arteta has sent a strong message to Liverpool, insisting Arsenal will not stop pushing for the Premier League title after their dramatic late victory over Leicester City.
The Gunners reduced the gap to four points behind Liverpool, capitalizing on Arne Slot’s side dropping points to Everton earlier in the week.
Despite missing key forwards Kai Havertz and Gabriel Jesus, Arsenal found a hero in Mikel Merino. The midfielder, playing as a makeshift striker, came off the bench to score twice and secure a crucial win. His goals came just days after Everton’s James Tarkowski netted a last-minute equalizer to hold Liverpool to a 2-2 draw at Goodison Park.
With 13 games remaining, Arteta remains confident in his team’s title challenge. Speaking to TNT Sports, he declared:
“We really want it. No matter what difficulties we face, we will give this a real go. The team wants it, we’ve worked hard for months, and we’re not going to stop. Let’s see how far we can go!”
Arsenal extended their unbeaten run to 15 Premier League games, winning 10 of them. However, their upcoming fixtures will test their resilience, with matches against West Ham, Nottingham Forest, Manchester United, and Chelsea in the next month.
“It’s been a decent week,” Arteta said. “We can only control our own results. Winning games in this league is tough, and we have to be at our best every time. It’s going to be a long run.”
Against Leicester, Arteta initially deployed Leandro Trossard up front, but after a lackluster performance, he turned to Merino. Within minutes, the midfielder repaid the trust by scoring twice.
“I told him he was going to score,” Arteta revealed. “He has great timing and anticipation. We believed he could deliver, and he did.”
Arsenal continue to defy critics despite injuries, suspensions, and setbacks. Though scraping past a struggling Leicester side may not define champions, their resilience keeps them firmly in the title race.
