There was near confusion at the premises of the Asokore Mampong District Court on Thursday, when Anwar Sadat Mohammed, the prime suspect in the murder of Asamponghene, Oheneba Kwadwo Aforduor, appeared in court.
This was because a group of angry young men, believed to be family members of the late chief, charged at and hurled insults at the suspect, after court proceedings. Mohammed, who was in handcuffs, had to be whisked into a waiting police vehicle.
So tense was the situation that even the lawyers of the suspect were not spared as the angry young men spat venom at them for defending the suspect in court.
After the sitting, the Court remanded Sadat Mohammed into prison custody to reappear on November 14, 2019.
The prosecutor said investigations were still ongoing and that he would need more time, to which the accepted.
Sadat Mohammed was arrested in Burkina Faso after police had declared him wanted for having a hand in the murder of the late Asamponghene.
