Unknown youth angrily hurled stones at the convoy of the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, in Techiman, Bono East Region.
The convoy, returning to Kumasi after a funeral in Nkoranza on Monday, December 2, 2024, faced attacks by unidentified youths, as captured in a viral video.
The aggressive attack caused damage to several buses as well as injured some of the passengers in the bus,raising nationwide concern.Reports suggest that the attackers may be local youths from Techiman.
In response to the incident, the Ghana Police Service has launched a comprehensive investigation to identify the culprits and determine the motive behind the attack.
The police are collaborating with the Manhyia Palace and local leaders in Techiman to gather critical information and ease any rising tensions. Authorities have urged the public to remain calm, promising a swift and thorough resolution to the matter.
In a statement, the police highlighted the need to maintain peace and called for public cooperation as the investigation progresses. The attack has drawn significant attention due to the Asantehene’s revered status and the emphasis on unity among communities.
“We remain committed to uncovering the facts and ensuring justice is served,” the police assured.

POLICE INVESTIGATE ALLEGED ATTACK ON ASANTEHENE’S CONVOY AT TECHIMAN IN THE BONO EAST REGION
The Ghana Police Service is investigating an alleged attack on the convoy of the Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu Il, which occurred at Techiman in the Bono East Region, yesterday, Monday, 2nd December 2024.
Preliminary Police investigation revealed that the incident occurred as the Asantehene was returning from a funeral at Nkoranza in the Bono East Region when some youth believed to be from Techiman threw stones at some buses in the convoy.
The Police are in touch with Manhyia Palace in Kumasi and other stakeholders at Techiman as part of the investigation.
