Asawase NDC Chair Dethroned

THE NATIONAL Democratic Congress (NDC) elected its constituency executives in 22 constituencies in the Ashanti Region on Saturday, amid tension in some constituencies especially Asawase.

The party Chairman for Asawase, Musa Abubakar was dethroned by Faisal Dauda in the polls.

In general, the opposition NDC planned to have elections in 22 constituencies on Saturday and continue with the remaining 25 constituemcies in the Region on Sunday.

The Asawase polls, which was the center of attraction in the Ashanto Region, was filled with tension. The security personnel had to work very hard just to ensure that the polls were held peacefully.

In the end, Faisal Dauda caused a huge upset as he defeated the incumbent Chairman. The newly elected chairman, in his victory address, called for unity in the NDC ahead of the 2024 polls.

Meanwhile, the Manhyia South and Suame Constituencies NDC could not hold their elections on Saturday as scheduled as some aggrieved party people secured court injunction to stop the polls.

According to the peeved NDC members, there were reports of missing names in the party register in the two constituencies and that was the reason the aggrieved members went to court.

Meanwhile, the Affigya Kwabre South NDC could not hold their elections due to misunderstandings at the last minute. Betty Mould Iddrisu, the Elections Committee Chairperson, was accused of favouring some of the candidates, leading to the suspension of the polls.

In a related development, the NDC was supposed to hold elections in the remaining constituencies on Sunday.
