Asawase NPP Brouhaha Over …As Akufo-Addo Declares Support For Seidu
The confusion in the Asawase Constituency of the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP), over who should represent the party for the 2020 polls, seems to have been resolved, following President Akufo-Addo’s recent visit to the constituency.
Addressing a mini rally at Aboabo on Wednesday, the president raised the hands of Alidu Seidu, who is the MCE for Asokore Mampong, and said and asked the constituents to vote for him as their Member of Parliament.
The president’s action, if it is anything to go by, signals the end of the road for Manaf Ibrahim, who defied party directives not to contest, and was suspended from the party. He was also fired as the Director of Political Affairs at the presidency.
Despite these heartbreaking setbacks, there were unconfirmed reports that the party was divided over Manaf since there was no primary in the constituency.
But President Nana Akufo-Addo, addressing residents of Asawase, virtually removed every ambiguity when he declared: “it is not time for campaign, but when the time is due, Alidu is my man for Asawase”.
He further charged the people of Asawase to replace their current Member of Parliament (MP), Mohammed Mubarak Muntaka, who he thinks had nothing new to offer the people of the Constituency.
