Residents of Bantama, in Kumasi, are set to benefit from their first modern artificial football park project in the constituency.
The ‘astro turf’ project has become possible following the timely intervention of Francis Asenso-Boakye, a Deputy Chief of Staff.
The facility, which would boast of flood lights, dressing rooms, spectators stand and others, would be located Cocoa Ase Park.
Asenso-Boakye, native of Bantama, solicited for support from the National Lottery Authority (NLA) to get the project to kick-start.
At a sod-cutting ceremony to start the project, Asenso-Boakye said helping to develop Bantama Constituency is his major priority.
He said Bantama Constituency boasts of several sporting talents, who with the right infrastructure and training, could become world stars.
According to him, the project, aside beautifying Bantama, would also help to unearth more sports stars for the country very soon.
Asenso-Boakye, who is the favourite to win upcoming NPP Bantama parliamentary primaries, said he would construct two more astro turfs for Bantama.
According to the deputy Chief of Staff, one of the astro turfs would be located at the Lebanon Club and the other at Bohyen, all in Bantama.
Kofi Osei-Ameyaw, the Director General of the NLA, said Asenso-Boakye is determined to see the park constructed “it shows he loves Bantama”.
Osei Assibey-Antwi, the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA), Chief Executive, stated that Asenso-Boakye is a visionary leader “and we are grateful to him”.
Robert Coleman, CEO of Wembley Sports Complex Limited, contractors for the project, said they would use six months to complete the park.
