ASHANTI NDC SPLITS …Over Yammin’s Defeat
The Ashanti Regional National Democratic Congress (NDC), is reeling under untold pressure as cracks begin to emerge among its rank and file.
The party’s troubles begun days after the Ashanti Regional Election which saw the defeat of Joseph Yammin.
The former Deputy Sports Minister lost his bid to lead the NDC in the region in a keenly contested race which elected Andrews Augustus Nana Akwasi
He lost by 88 votes to Nana Akwasi who polled 699 votes.
But the outcome of the election, reports say have put the supporters of the two kingpins at each other’s throat.
The paper’s checks indicates that the seeming animosity between the two camps is causing nightmarish experiences for some party members.
So serious is the looming crack that Brogya Genfi, who is contesting for the NDC National Youth Organizer position, had to add his voice to calls for peace to return to the party.
In an interview with Hello FM, Gyamfi confirmed the reports of rift with the party.
He stressed the need for the two factions to bury their differences and let peace prevail in the party, and commended the newly elected Regional Chairman, Nana Akwasi, for leading a crusade to unite the party.
If the trend continues, the NDCs voting strength in the Ashanti region, which reduced to 400,000 in 2016, may further reduce in the 2020 general elections.
