ATWAG Calls For More Investors In The Tourism Sector
The Arts and Tourism Writers Association of Ghana (ATWAG) has appealed to government to take advantage of the enormous opportunities in tourism to help increase their earnings and grow local economies.
The Association is optimistic that increased investments in high-end and budget hotels, restaurants, shopping malls and other hospitality facilities in the savannah zone would help attract more visitors into the savannah zone, known for its serenity in nature and being home to dozens of historical and breathtaking sites.
In a statement issued to mark the World Tourism Day, Kwame Dadzie, the Public Relations Officer of the Association said, ” As important as tourism is to sustainable development, we particularly charge the government not to relent on efforts to make Ghana a preferred tourism destination”.
Given the multiplier effects on growth and transformation of tourism, ATWAG revealed that the Association had made tourism one of the catalysts for its transformation agenda and is working on that with other agencies in making that a reality.
An initiative of the UN’s World Tourism Organisation, the World Tourism Day (WTD) is marked every year on September 27 to help throw more light on how countries can use tourism to develop their economies.
Just like last year, the World Tourism Day in Ghana was observed by the Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts, with the specialized institution tasked with the transformation of the northern half of the country.
The Association has charge Ghanaians to take interest in the various tourism sites to help promote domestic tourism and grow the economies of the host communities.
”To all tourism writers, let us continue to highlight the relevant tourism-related issues to help project the sector,” the statement added.
The Arts and Tourism Writers Association of Ghana (ATWAG) is an association of Ghanaian arts writers/journalists and media workers. ATWAG seeks to promote arts, tourism and culture reporting in Ghana while developing the professional capacity and the welfare of its members.
ATWAG is also aimed at promoting co-operation and collaboration among its members and players.
