The aftermath of the release in respect to the 2020 Top 50 Ghanaian bloggers by Avance Media has created a lot of controversies in the blogging space.
While many are enjoying the shine out of the ranking, the Entertainment Editor of Pulse Ghana, David Mawuli, has chastised the list describing it as ”unfair”.
According to him, the 2020 list by the PR firm does not constituent to the real bases on the ground in terms of numbers, and popularity in the blogging space.
Speaking in an interview with Andy Dosty on Daybreakhitz Show Tuesday morning, David said he has improved massively over the period adding that, he deserves a better position than the 32rd he was placed.
”I reject the 32nd position I was placed, I’m not accepting it. In 2018, I was at number 20, between 2018 up to 2020, I have improved massively with numbers, social media following, page views, clicks, whatever, name it. I have improved in blogging and unfortunately, I was dropped to 32.
”The list is not fair, some bloggers who even deserves to be there are not there, the kind of ranking they’ve done, honestly it’s very wrong. They did a very poor job. Some names on the list really really don’t make sense. I feel that it’s a family and friends list” he said.
”Let’s take Zionfelix for instance, his ranking does not suit him. Per Avance Media ranking, Zionfelix dropped this year, currently he has all the numbers, he’s the most followed blogger on Instagram, he has massive numbers on twitter and facebook as well. His videos makes very good views on Youtube, aside that he has a website that makes some reasonable numbers but here is the case, they put him behind someone who doesn’t even have a proper Instagram account.” he added.
The ranking which came into origin in 2018, features the faces behind the most read, popular and trustworthy blogs in Ghana and highlights how individuals are adding to digital journalism in Ghana.
The MD of Avance Media, Mr Prince Akpah in the 2020 list recognised the appearance of 20 new entrants and noted the ranking was based on the accomplishments, leadership and influence of the bloggers within the Ghanaian community and their capacity to shape the sector in the future.
