The Confederation of African Football (CAF), has reinstated Equatorial Guinea’s women national team, as legitimate participants in the upcoming Africa Women Cup of Nations (AWCON) to be hosted in Ghana.
This follows an appeal which was upheld by the Appeal Board of CAF, which was submitted by the Equatoguinean Football Federation (EFF) and declared Anette Jacky Messomo eligible to feature for the “Nzalang Nacional”.
The Kenya Football Federation in June, submitted a protest to CAF, questioning the eligibility of the player in question, as Disciplinary Council of CAF initial upheld the protest and fined the EFF $10,000.
The Appeal Board annulled the decision of the Disciplinary Council and reinstated Equatorial Guinea, as they would feature in this year’s tournament.
Equatorial Guinea will now be in Group B together with South Africa, Nigeria and Zambia.
