Azumah Eulogises Dogboe
Boxing legend Azumah Nelson has congratulated Ghana’s newest world champion, Isaac Dogboe, on winning the World Boxing Organisation (WBO) super bantamweight title after an 11th round TKO against Jessie Magdaleno at the Liacouras Centre in Philadelphia, USA, last Saturday night.
In a statement, Nelson eulogised the youngster for his bravery, determination and resilience against Magdaleno, and also expressed his delight that the newly crowned champion took his counsel to let his fists do the job and not allow ringside judges to determine his fate.
However, the three-time world champion over two divisions advised Dogboe to keep his head up and to brace himself for bigger challenges ahead as a world champion.
“The real challenge starts from today as he has become the target of all boxers seeking this belt. Dogboe has to train harder than he did before this fight, continue to respect his team and honour the God who made him the champion and I promise him he will do greater things. Ghanaians are proud of him so he must work harder to make them happy,” said Nelson, a member of the International Boxing Hall of Fame, in a statement yesterday.
He commended the Ghana Boxing Authority and its president, Peter Zwennes, for the support he offered the Dogboe team and urged Ghanaians to continue to rally behind the new champion as he continues his pursuit of boxing greatness.
