Late highlife legend Alfred Benjamin Crentsil (AB Crentsil) has been laid to rest.
He was buried at Ewoyaa, near Saltpond in the Central Region
The funeral rite of the legend was held at the Community 8 Number 2 Park at Tema with many people in attendance, including former President John Dramani Mahama.
Mr. Mahama speaking at the funeral, to commiserate with the family called AB Crentsil a “great icon of Ghanaian music.”
“Today, our friend and brother AB doesn’t need anything else from us. Just prayers that God will open paradise for him” he added.
Wife of the deceased, Elizabeth Adwoa Crentsil said the duo met in Takoradi in 1968 and that meeting made her understand many things in life due to his sense of humour and personality.
She said her husband’s love for music was deep and unconditional adding that while they were dating; he used to converse with her lyrically which made her laugh.
“We have been through thick and thin throughout our relationship. At some point, things were so bad that we did not know where our next meal would come from.” she said.
GHAMRO in a tribute read by Rex Omar, Board Chairman said the late musician was one of the greatest song writers, composers and musicians, whose origin started way back in the 1970’s and saw him play with many bands notably El Dorados and Sweet Talks. His lyric talent and music made him a household name in the music industry across the world.
He said A.B Crentsil’s passion and mastery which he added to his songs made them unique and one that everyone would love to listen to over and over again.
MUSIGA in their tribute said the late musician served MUSIGA diligently in various capacities adding that apart from being an opinion leader in the Union.
Other dignitaries within the political space who attended the funeral included the Minister of Trade and Industry, Alan John Kyerematen and former Chief of Staff, Julius Debrah and a host of others from the entertainment circles.
AB Crentsil passed away on 13th July 2022, at the age of 79.
His remains was sent to his hometown in Saltpond for interment.
AB Crentsil is known for songs such as ‘Moses’, ‘Atia’, ‘Angelina’, ‘Papa Samo’, ‘Yewo Adze Oye’, among others.
