Bantama Rapist Jailed 7 Years
THERE WERE sad scenes in a Circuit Court in Kumasi on Monday after 20-year old Ernest Asare was jailed seven years for rape.
Family members of the convict, who had jammed the courtroom, could not hold back their tears as he was handed the long jail sentence by the judge.
Asare was among a group of five boys, who allegedly gang-raped a teenage girl at Bantama and recorded the act on their cell phone.
Luck, however, eluded the five as the video went viral on social media.
Her Honour Comfort Tasiame, Presiding Judge, did not sentence the other suspects because they were below 18 years at the time they committed the crime.
She, however, ordered that the four, who have all been convicted of the charges preferred against them, be sent to the Juvenile Court for sentencing.
All five suspects were hauled before the court on charges of defilement, conspiracy to defile and abetment to crime.
It would be recalled that, in December last year, there was national outrage after news had broken that five young boys, all resident of Bantama, a suburb of Kumasi, had gang-raped a teenage girl, recorded the act and posted the video on social media.
