Bawku Conflict: ‘Bring in the soldiers responsible for killing 3 men’ – Ayariga tells Ghana Armed Forces

Member of Parliament for Bawku Central, Mahama Ayariga has called on the Ghana Armed Forces to submit the soldiers allegedly responsible for the death of three men in Sabongari in the Upper East Region.

The MP in an interview on TV3’s Key Points, Saturday, said the alleged murder by the soldiers is condemnable and not right in the face of the law.

“The attitude of the military is something that I have been condemning and I am asking their commanders to bring in their men because the Ghana Armed Forces have a very enviable reputation as one of the very professional institutions that has gained some international respect for their excellence in peacekeeping missions,” he said.

Reports on Friday, January 19 indicated that some soldiers numbering about fifteen apprehended some young men at Sabongari, drove them to an unknown location, tortured and murdered them.

According to Mahama Ayariga who also confirmed the killing, said the sad incident happened on Thursday evening.

“Unfortunately, we even had additional killings last night…they hit the three of them mercilessly. The Assemblyman tried to intervene, but they refused to listen and they beat these boys and finally shot the three of them,” the MP said in an interview on the JoyNews’ AM Show.

The MP has also urged Parliament to intervene in the escalating conflict in Bawku.

The Legislator wants Parliament to investigate the harmful actions that have led to the death of some five persons.

“I want parliament to go into this matter. It’s been happening…because of the conflict situation there has been some level of tolerance of misconduct but the excesses are becoming too much so we need to set up and demand some accountability even from the military,” Mr. Ayariga said in an interview on Key Points on TV3, Saturday.

Mr. Mahama Ayariga will meet with the military commanders in Bawku on Saturday, January 20 over the alleged killing by the soldiers.
