THERE WAS drama when the Ashanti Regional Youth Organizer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Raphael Sarfo Patrick, was prevented from casting his ballot on Saturday.
Sarfo Patrick, a known supporter of the presidential ambition of Vice President Dr Mahamadu Bawumia, had gone through the process of voting and he was about dropping his ballot into the ballot box when he was stopped.
According to reports, agents of the various aspirants had raised a protest on the grounds that Sarfo Patrick had shown his thumb printed ballot to the public, which is illegal.
In this regard, the Electoral Commission (EC) officials had no other option than to prevent Sarfo Patrick from dropping his ballot paper into the ballot box.
The decision of the EC officials was met by fierce protest from Sarfo Patrick, who insisted that his ballot paper was folded so nobody could see who he voted for.
Meanwhile, Dr. Bawumia massively won the Ashanti Regional Special Delegates Conference elections by amassing a whopping 97 votes to carry the day in a spectacular fashion.
The second position was taken by Alan Kwadwo Kyeremanteng, who polled 10 votes, followed by Kennedy Agyapong, 6 votes and Owusu Afriyie Akoto, 5 votes.
In related development, the election, held at the KNUST Law Faculty, recorded no incident as scores of policemen provided adequate security at the event venue.
