Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has described the establishment of a Fire Service Academy and Training School in Wungu as historic, adding that as the second training school to be set up in the country, the school is an important milestone for the Ghana National Fire Service, the Wungu community in the West Mamprusi Municipality and the whole country.
Commissioning the first phase of the school in Wungu on Friday January 19, 2024, DrMahamudu noted that the facility will equip personnel of Ghana National Fire Service and other stakeholders with the appropriate knowledge and skills in the prevention and fight against fires.
He explained due to the importance the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Government has placed on the GNFS, it decided from the outset when it assumed the reins of power to set up three more fire training schools since the sole fire training school in Accra proved inadequate.
“This marks an important milestone for the Ghana National Fire Service(GNFS), the Wungu community and our dear nation Ghana as a whole. This is historic. Why do I say so? When we came into office in January 17, there was only one fire academy training school in Ghana, just one at Jamestown. We made the decision that given the importance of the fire service in Ghana, it was important to increase the number of fire training schools in Ghana. So we made the decision to increase the number from one to four,” DrBawumia explained in his speech at the commissioning ceremony.
The Chief Fire Officer( CFO) Julius A. Kuunuor expressed gratitude to the Government for the establishment of the school, adding that the facility will enhance training of personnel of the service.
