Bawumia Meets Asantehemaa
IT WAS all smiles when the Asantehemaa, Nana Ama Konadu, met with the Vice President, Dr. Mahamadu Bawumia during the Akwasidae festival, held at the Manhyia Palace in Kumasi, last Sunday.
Akwasidae is on a Sunday, once every six weeks (46 days) on the Asante calendar by the Ashanti people and chiefs in Ashanti, as well as the Ashanti diaspora. It is for the people to pay homage to their traditional leaders.
Dr. Bawumia, who led a government delegation to the ceremony, respectfully paid homage to the Asante Queen.
Nana Ama Konadu welcomed the Vice President with open arms into her palace, situated at Manhyia.
The two dignitaries were said to have held a meeting but it was not opened to the media so palace fficials maintained zipped lips over the details.
Earlier on, Dr. Mahamadu Bawumia had joined the Asante King, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, to mark the Akwasidae festival.
The vice president was welcomed with a thunderous applause as he stepped foot on the durbar grounds at the Manhyia Palace.
Leading a government delegation, Dr. Bawumia and his team stormed where Otumfuo was seated to pay homage to him.
Neither Otumfuo nor Dr. Bawumia gave a speech during the event. There were a lot of drumming and dancing at the function.
