Bawumia Rallies Support for All Regional Games

Vice-President Mahamudu Bawumia has called on Ghanaians to support the All-Regional Games and all similar initiatives that aim to uplift the youth in the country.

From football and volleyball to athletics, basketball, boxing, tennis, and arm wrestling, the initiative aims to unearth the next generation of Ghanaian sporting talent and provide a pathway for their development.

The initiative requires each region to conduct trials and select its top sportsmen and women, who will then compete against athletes from other regions.

In a Facebook post last Saturday after launching the initiative in Kumasi, Bawumia said Ghanaians must harness the power of sports to build a stronger and united Ghana.

“I joined Ghana legend Asamoah ‘Baby Jet’ Gyan to launch the All-Regional Games 2024 at the Baba Yara Stadium, Kumasi this evening. This championship, organized by Asamoah Gyan in collaboration with the Ministry of Youth and Sports and spanning several sporting disciplines, marks a significant milestone in our collective effort to revive grassroots sports across all 16 regions of our nation.”

The post added, “Sports have always been a unifying force, transcending barriers and bringing people together. Together, we can harness the power of sports to build a stronger, more united Ghana. Let us support the All-Regional Games and all similar initiatives that aim to uplift our youth and promote national pride”.

Meanwhile a Development Economist and a Senior Research Fellow at the Centre for Social Policy Studies (CSPS) at the College of Humanities, University of Ghana, Dr George Domfe, has said that Bawumia will be a listening president if he wins the 2024 general elections.

“Vice President Bawumia listened to the members of the NPP in his selection of Dr Matthew Opoku-Prempeh. All the research works conducted by different research groups pointed to the larger majority of NPP members wanting Dr Matthew Opoku-Prempeh.

“He will be a listening President looking at how he listened to the desires of the party’s people to name Dr Matthew Opoku-Prempeh as his running mate. This is what Ghanaians need in a leader, the one who listens to our concerns and act upon them” he stated in an interview on Movement Television.
