Bawumia vows to deepen media freedom if elected president

During an interaction with journalists on Sunday (25 August) in Accra, Dr Bawumia emphasised the importance of the media as a key partner in the country’s progress and assured that an NPP-led government would maintain strong collaboration with the press.

He reiterated the NPP’s historical commitment to media freedom, noting that it was under former President Kufuor’s administration that the criminal libel law was repealed, allowing the media to operate freely.

“The NPP views the media as a crucial partner in national development. In our quest to expand the frontiers of democratic governance in Ghana, it was the NPP under former President JA Kufuor that repealed the criminal libel law for the media to function fully,” Dr Bawumia stated.

He further assured that, if elected in the 2024 general elections, his administration would continue to uphold and deepen media freedom.

“We’re partners with you, and the partnership I will continue to keep as the new leader of the NPP. We’re committed to deepening media freedom,” he added. –AsaaseRadio
