An Accra High Court presided over by Justice Anthony Yeboah has adjourned to February 20, the matter involving the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) and parents of A-Z Academy School, for alleged involvement in exams malpractice.
The adjournment, according to the court, is due to the inability of the counsel of the aggrieved parents, Dr Joe Attipoe to respond to the affidavit filed by counsel for WAEC, Rev Victor Brew.
Dr Attipoe argued that the counsel for the defendant deliberately chose to file his witness statement late to make it extremely difficult for him to respond.
He also noted that the court asked counsel for the defendant to file his witness statement on or before January 26 but declined to do so and rather served him a copy of his witness statement the morning of the hearing on Tuesday, February 6 compelling him to seek more time and subsequently respond accordingly.
In an interview with some of the aggrieved parents, they said they cannot fathom why the court could allow the counsel for the defendant to intentionally delay in doing what is right in order to expedite action on the proceedings.
The parents also raised questions as to why 20 out of 40 students of the same school could have the English Language result cancelled.
They lamented in an interview with Class News’ Ibrahim Obeng-Mensah that the Attorney General and the Gender Ministry must come to their aid.
