PLANS HAVE reached advanced stages for the creation of a COVID-19 Isolation Center at Bekwai in the Ashanti Region.
Health Minister, Kwaku Agyeman Manu, said the center would boost the treatment of the persons who test positive for dangerous virus in the area.
He said a completed block at the Bekwai Government Hospital, which is under construction, would be used for the center.
The Minister debunked claims that the Bekwai Government Hospital, started under the National Democratic Comgress (NDC)-led administration, had been abandoned.
According to him, the New Patriotic Party (MPP)-led government is making efforts to complete all hospital projects that were started during the NDC government.
Barring any last minute hitch, Agyeman Manu said the Bekwai Government Hospital project would be completed in late 2020.
He announced that works are progressing at Tepa, Sewua, Afari and other areas in the region, where new ultra modern hospitals are being built.
Agyeman Manu, however, said the contractor working on the Kumawu Government Hospital was not delivering as expected.
According to him, his ministry had contacted the appropriate government agencies to terminate the Kumawu contract.
“We shall appoint a new contractor to speed up works at Kumawu after the present contractor had been sacked”, he disclosed.
