Plans are in the offing for the organization of a mammoth demonstration against President Nana Akufo-Addo’s government in Kumasi. The demonstration, christened ‘Asanteman Kyefa Demo’, to wit ‘Asanteman is demanding its fair share of the national cake’, is to be staged by the famous Kumasi Youth Association (KUYA), one of the most powerful and vibrant youth groups in Asanteman.
KUYA is of the view that the New Patriotic Party (NPP) government is not treating Ashanti Region fairy.
According to them, developmental projects have not been forthcoming for the Ashanti region, hence their decision to hit the streets.
The group has served strong notice on several social media platforms about their readiness to demonstrate against the New Patriotic Party (NPP) administration.
According to them, Asanteman contributed immensely to ensure that the NPP won the 2016 elections and therefore deserved something better than what they are seeing now.
The NPP secured colossal votes and also won 44 out of the 47 parliamentary seats in the Ashanti region during the 2016 national elections, and demonstration of this nature could cost the party.
It would be recalled that the ex-President Kufuor administration suffered similar demonstrations in Kumasi during his presidency.
At the time, residents complained severely about lack of developmental projects in the Region, leading to apathy and a drop in votes cast in the 2008 general elections.
