Members of Ghana’s official entourage at the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar have signed a Code of Conduct to uphold utmost discipline before and during the competition.
The Ghanaian delegation including members of the playing unit, technical team, management and other select members attached to the Black Stars fourth appearance at the World Cup, signed the Code of Conduct upon arrival at the team’s base in Abu Dhabi in the United Arab Emirates.
The team proceeded to beat Switzerland 2-0 at the Zayed Sports City Stadium in a final warm up game before jetting off to its World Cup base in Doha.
Players including Black Stars Captain Andre Ayew and Daniel Kofi Kyereh and Black Stars Technical Advisor Chris Hughton were pictured appending their signatures to the agreed set of rules.
According to the Ghana Football Association (GFA), “the group is expected to be upright ethically, be respectful, honest, display a very high level of integrity and uphold the good name of the Black Stars, GFA and Ghana”.
Ghana is competing at the FIFA World Cup for the fourth time in its history after making appearances in the 2006, 2010 and 2014 editions.
Ghana’s run in the 2014 edition in Brazil was rocked by wide spread reports of indiscipline acts from some officials and players.
The Black Stars has been drawn in Group H with Portugal, Uruguay and South Korea; Ghana plays Portugal in the first of three games at the group stage against Portugal on Thursday, November 24.
Meanwhile the team former midfielder, Laryea Kingston, has tipped the Black Stars to sail through the group stage of the tournament.
“We’ll take it a game at a time. We are in a group that is very tough. The good thing for us is that we’ve played two teams in that group before, and we know what they are capable of doing. For me I think it’s a plus for us. We’ll do our background check on them and approach a game at a time.
“But I believe we going to go through our group. I’m sure in the current players that is going to represent us. They’ll have some videos about former players that are, are rooting and rallying behind them. For me, I think it’s a huge motivation for the team” he said.
