Black Stars was Unable to Utilize Chances – Kwesi Appiah
Black Stars head coach Kwesi Appiah feels the Black Stars missed several chances against Kenya which if converted would have given his side a victory.
Ghana were stunned in Nairobi as the Hamrabee Stars narrowly won 1-0 in a 2019 AFCON qualifier.
Ghana after winning their first qualifier 5-0 against Ethiopia were expected to beat Kenya but were shocked as Nicholas Opoku own goal gave Kenya all three points.
The Black Stars created as many as 13 goal scoring chances but failed to get a goal, something Kwesi Appiah is struggling to come to terms with it.
“We had a lot of chances but it’s just unfortunate we couldn’t utilize any, I believe Kenya did well but we could have done better with the chances we had. We should have at least converted them.” – he said in an interview after the match.
The Black Stars of Ghana faced the Harambee Stars of Kenya, searching for the second victory after thrashing Ethiopia 5-0 in the first match.
Ghanaian defender Nicholas Opoku in the 40th minute slotted the ball into his own net following an attempt to clear a cross, thus, sending the Harambee Stars of Kenya 1-0 up against the Black Stars in the first half.
The four-time African champions could not capitalise on the red card as the Kenyans were down to 10-men following Joash Onyango serious challenge on Majeed Waris at the edge of the penalty Area on the 62nd minutes.
Ghana will seek to recover from the Nairobi setback with a home game against Sierra Leone in October.
