Black Stars head coach Otto Addo is expected to announce his 26-man squad for the 2022 Qatar World Cup today, Monday, November 14, 2022.
Many were expecting an announcement of the squad list by the end of last week, however, Ghanaians were told to wait until today to know the players who will represent Ghana in Qatar.
The Black Stars twitter handle released this information on Thursday.
The Black Stars will face Switzerland in a friendly match on November 17, 2022, before heading to Qatar.
Ghana will face Portugal, Uruguay and South Korea in Group H of the 2022 World Cup.
Even before the announcement, news of certain players who might miss the opportunity to play for the team at Qatar is all over the media space and social media.
Goallkeeper Jojo Wollacott for instance faces a nervous wait over his participation in Qatar after he suffered an injury before Charlton’s 3-3 draw with Burton Albion last Saturday.
Wollacott, 26, was withdrawn from Charlton’s starting 11 after hurting his finger during the warm-up at the Pirelli Stadium.
The injury means Wollacott who was a sure bet to be in Coach Otto Addo’s squad for the 2022 World Cup squad is now awaiting the results of a scan to confirm his availability.
Charlton manager Ben Garner confirmed that Wollacott would be named in Ghana’s squad on Monday, adding that he was hopeful it would be a minor injury that will not rule out the shot-stopper from the Mundial.
“We’re praying for good news. He’s got a scan as soon as we get back to London. He just caught one on the end of his finger. We’re just hoping it’s a ligament or something like that. A little sprain in there,” Garner said.
“We’re just praying for good news. He’s due to fly out tomorrow and join up with Ghana. Hopefully, we get good news. He’s a really level-headed guy, Jojo. He was disappointed before the game and frustrated by it. I don’t think he was in a position to be on the bench so we made the decision to put an extra outfield player on.
“He’s a little bit more positive in there now and we’re really hopeful it’s positive news and he can travel tomorrow.”
