Blows Over NPP Polls
CONFUSION has rocked the New Patriotic Party (NPP) polling station elections at the Manhyia North Constituency in Kumasi, the capital of the Ashanti region, says information reaching THE PUBLISHER.
The NPP Member of Parliament (MP) in the area, Collins Owusu Amankwa and Mr. Akwasi Konadu, who contested for the parliamentary primaries but lost, have been accused for instigating the troubles.
Supporters of the two aforementioned top party members were virtually at each other’s throat on Wednesday, an unpleasant action which disrupted the party’s polls at the ECG Flat Polling Station.
According to sources, the two camps prevented known party members from taking part in the elections and this was the genesis of what turned out to be a free-for-all-brawl in the constituency.
Party people that THE PUBLISHER contacted said nasty incidents erupted in the area as the NPP members attacked each other with ‘machomen’ until police were called to the place to ensure sanity.
Interestingly, the camps of the MP, Collins Owusu Amankwa and Mr. Akwasi Konadu have been pointing accusing fingers at each, regarding who caused the troubles to disrupt the elections.
Mr. Akwasi Konadu, speaking on Nhyira FM, accused Collins Owusu Amankwa of hiring ‘machomen’ to assault innocent NPP members without provocation, which led to the elections being disrupted on Wednesday.
On his part, one Victor, who spoke on behalf of Collins Owusu Amankwa on the same platform, denied being the cause of the troubles. He alleged that Mr. Akwasi Konadu has adopted violent means to become the MP of the area.
