‘Bomb’ Suspect Freed
The Attorney-General says the state is no more interested in prosecuting one of the three men arrested with unauthorized explosives in Accra.
They are Ismaili Ali Musah, 30, an Arabic Teacher in Lybia; Abdul Karim, a Filling Station Attendant and Osmani Alhassan an onion seller.
Ms Sefakor Batsa told the Accra Central District Magistrate Court today that the AG per the valuation of the case docket has decided to drop the charges against Alhassan.
According to the state Attorney, the AG has instructed that Ali and Karim be charged with possession of explosives and firearms.
Ms. Batsa served notice that at the next adjourned date, the state would start the committal proceedings.
Felix Aboagye, lawyer for Ali and Karim urged the court to grant them bail but the trial magistrate, Ebenezer K. Ansah said he was not minded to grant the bail.
He said the lawyer must go to the high court for bail and that grenades are not found on the streets.
One of the suspects is said to have links with international terrorist group, the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS), although the Police in Ghana are yet to officially confirm that suspicion.
The Police reportedly found seven grenades of varied species in the custody of Abdul Karim who cooperated with investigations to arrest his two other accomplices
Karim was arrested at Odorkor, a community in Accra and subsequently handed over to the police.
The Prosecutor, ACP Fredrick Adjei had earlier told the court to remand the accused persons into police custody while further investigations into the matter continue.
ACP Adjei indicated that the police have to investigate how the accused persons came by the explosives and what they wanted to do with them.
The court further heard that the said explosives are part of ammunition belonging to the Ghana Armed Forces.
