There was we weeping and wailing on Sunday at Mamponteng in the Kwabre East Municipality of the Ashanti region, when a teenager accidentally shot and killed his little sister with a long gun.
Residents could not understand what must have prompted 13-year-old boy (name witheld), to pull the trigger of the loaded gun at his 8-year-old sister, killing her instantly.
The two siblings, according to residents, were living in a different community, but visited their grandfather, Kofi Atta, 70, to spend the weekend with him at Mamponteng, when the incident happened.
The septuagenarian, who owned the gun, was said to have left it loaded in his living room, whilst he was cooking in the kitchen.
The accused, according to reports, playfully pointed it at his sister, and threatened to shoot her. Unknowing that it was loaded, the 13 year-old boy then pulled the trigger and shot his kid sister in the face at close range.
The lifeless body of the girl had since been deposited in a morgue for preservation and autopsy.
Meanwhile, the police have arrested the owner of the gun for questioning, eye witnesses have told the paper.
Unconfirmed reports say he uses the gun to ward off robbery attacks in the area.
