Mr Martin A.B.K. Amidu has resigned from his position as Special Prosecutor after two years of service.
On 11th January, 2018, he was named by the President Akufo-Addo as the Special Prosecutor for the newly created Office of the Special Prosecutor.
In a letter addressed to President Nana Akufo-Addo, Martin Amidu said his decision to resign is to allow President “to take steps to appoint a replacement to that position as required by law.”
“This is to inform the public that I resigned from my position as the Special Prosecutor of the Office of the Special Prosecutor with immediate effect upon the submission of my letter of resignation with reference number OSP/2/AM/14 dated 16th November 2020 which was received at the Office of the President at 15:15 HRS this afternoon,” he stated.
Mr Martin Amidu in July 2019 wrote about the biggest challenge facing the Office of the Special Prosecutor as an anti-corruption investigatory and prosecutorial body.
He explained that in spite of all the powers conferred upon it, it is not the President who promised the people of Ghana to establish the Office but the heads of institutions who simply refuse to comply with laws designed to ensure good governance and to protect the national purse by fighting corruption.
