C/R: ‘You Can’t Escape Us Forever’ – Police Commander to Criminals

The Central Regional Commander of the Ghana Police Service, DCOP Paul Manly Awini, has warned criminals in the Region to see the recent swoops across the Region as a signal to them to cease their activities.

He has cautioned them not to underestimate the recent moves by the police in stemming criminal activities in the Central Region as the police will leave no stone unturned in their hunt for persons engaged in criminal activity.

“My warning to the criminals is that they should put a stop to these criminalities because the long arm of the law will definitely get them and they will pay dearly for it,” the Central Regional Commander cautioned.

Speaking to Citi News on Wednesday at Cape Coast, DCOP Awini noted that new anti-criminal strategies had been instituted by the Regional Command to outwit criminals across the Region.

The police in the Central Region have been organising a series of swoops on a weekly basis, coupled with intensified patrols, especially at night.

Suspected criminals have, in the recent weeks, been arrested at different suburbs of Kasoa, Cape Coast and Mankessim, towns that are rapidly seeing some spates of crimes due to their expansion and the brisk businesses there.

However, DCOP Manly Awini has revealed the police are intensifying their operations by taking the criminals by surprise saying, “we are going to use various tactics, not just patrols, but swoops, intelligence gathering, snap checks and all that.”

“Our snap checks are now dynamic; we study the areas and depending on where one crime pops up or the other, then before you realise, we have our snap checks around, and by and large we are chalking some successes because we are arresting them one by one.”

On the police’s cooperation with citizens to fight crime in the Central Region, the Regional Commander has pleaded with people to repose fresh trust in the police by providing information on crimes and persons involved in them.

“If anybody gets any information about any criminal, they should not hesitate at all to pass it on to the commanders. If they pass it on to us, we will work on it with the confidentiality it deserves – nobody will know where we got our intel from and all they will know is that the criminals have been arrested,” he assured.

He has therefore assured residents in the Region to go about their lives with no fear of criminals dominating their communities, indicating “the police are there for them day and night.”
