Cancer Not Spiritual Disease – Minister
CANCER PATIENTS in the country have been advised not to visit spiritualists and religious healers for a cure to their ailments.
The Ashanti Regional Minister, Simon Osei Mensah, who gave the warning, stated that such spiritualists and self-acclaimed herbalists do not have a cure for cancer.
He also warned sufferers patients against visiting churches, prayer camps and shrines in search of antidote to their ailment.
The Ashanti Regional Minister said all the aforementioned places also do not have cure for cancer, which is a deadly disease.
Hon. Osei Mensah stated emphatically that cancer can only be properly cured when patients visit the hospital on time.
He therefore urged persons suffering from cancer to always visit the hospital to help save their lives.
The Ashanti Regional Minister was speaking during this year’s World Cancer Day, which was held in Kumasi on Sunday afternoon.
The programme was graced by the Kumasi Mayor, Osei Assibey Antwi, breast cancer survivors, chiefs, students, nurses, just to mention a few.
Breast Care International (BCI) Ghana and Peace Love Hospital, both owned by celebrated breast cancer surgeon, Dr. Beatrice Wiafe-Addai, organized the event.
Hon. Osei Mensah said wild superstitions that cancer is a spiritual disease, which is caused by witches, is not true so the public should disregard it.
According to him, cancer is curable, especially when people infected with the disease, visit the hospital on time for proper treatment.
The Ashanti Regional Minister therefore charged the public to periodically visit the hospital for medical check up to save them from being killed by cancer.
Dr. Beatrice Wiafe-Addai expressed disgust about how cancer patients waste a lot of time visiting prayers camps, shrines, and other places for cure.
According to her, usually people suffering from cancer visit the hospital when the disease had reached advanced stage, where treatment is very difficult.
Osei Assibey Antwi, the Kumasi Mayor, assured that the assembly would offer the needed support to help defeat cancer in Kumasi and Ghana.
