THE ASHANTI Regional Police Command has warned car users in Kumasi, especially those who drive SUV and Pickup vehicles, to always be on the alert as faceless car snatchers have invaded the city.
According to the police, reported cases of car snatching in the lively city, which was hitherto on the downward trend, has suddenly resurfaced as some people have already fallen victim to the illegal activities.
“The Ashanti Regional Police Command wishes to alert the public, especially persons, who drive SUV’s and Pickup vehicles of the re-emerging of car snatching syndicates within the metropolis.
“These syndicates usually attack their unsuspecting victims at the entrance of their homes at gun point and snatch the vehicle from them”, a detailed police statement to caution the public, notably car users, said.
Authored by the Ashanti Regional Police Public Relations Officer (PRO), ASP Godwin Ahianyo, the statement assured that the police in the region is combat ready to crush the unknown car snatchers once-and-for-all.
He, however, reiterated his admonishment to car users in the Garden City, especially SUV and Pickup vehicle users, to be in the lookout so that they would not be taken unaware by the hardened hoodlums.
“Though the Command in recent past has arrested a number of these syndicates, some of which have been convicted and others on remand, bringing the menace to its barest minimum”, ASP Ahianyo said.
He added “The Command however, in the past few days, recorded cases of car snatching. The public is therefore advised to take the following personal security tips seriously in order to nip the menace in the bud”,
The police PRO advised “Never stop at the entrance of your gate and leave the ignition key on, whilst you open the gate to enter your home and instal lights to illuminate the entire drive way and the compound of the house”.
He also admonished “If you notice anything suspicious report it to the police or relevant authorities and always vary the routes you use to your house, so that you cannot be predicted by these miscreants”.
