The Vice President, Dr. Mahamadu Bawumia, has said an amount of 55 million Euros, earmarked for the construction of some 100 kilometres road projects in Kumasi, has been approved for disbursement therefore there ought to be no delays whatsoever in the project execution.
Dr. Bawumia said this during the sod-cutting ceremony for the road, dubbed ‘Rehabilitation and Auxiliary Infrastructure of Kumasi Inner Ring Road and Adjacent Streets’.
The 100 kilometres project would take place in areas such as Manhyia, Bantama, Subin, Nhyiaeso, which are sub-metros under the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA).
Other areas in the city to benefit from the road project are Asokwa Municipality, Kwadaso Municipality, Suame Municipality, Tafo Municipality and Oforikrom Municipality.
Dr. Bawumia said “this project will cost 55 million Euros and Cabinet and Parliament have approved the money for the project. The money is there so there won’t be delays”.
He said the government is committed to working to address the road problems that are confronting Kumasi and Ashanti region so residents should remain hopeful.
Already, he had announced that a 70 kilometre asphalt road project had taken place in some parts of Kumasi, adding that additional 130 kilometres would be added by the year 2020.
President Nana Akufo-Addo, he said, is aware that good roads would lead to proper development “and that is chiefly among the reasons he declared 2020 as a year of roads”.
He disclosed that the Obuasi-Anwia Nkwanta road project is ongoing, procurement for 30 kilometres facelift road project in Obuasi township is ongoing, among many others.
The Vice President also announced that several areas in the Ashanti region would benefit from road projects in the coming months to boost help movement.
