The Association of Catholic Teachers has strongly kicked against any attempt by government to re-open schools in the country anytime soon.
According to them, the schools do not have the needed infrastructure and equipment to prevent the spread of the COVID-19 virus so the schools should remain closed.
Mr. William Boakye Barfi, National Coordinator for the Association of Catholic Teachers, warned about the dangers of neglecting their counsel.
He was of the view that any immediate decision to re-open schools would instantly create fertile grounds for the contagious virus to spread among the students.
Boakye Barfi has therefore urged parents and guardians not to put pressure on government to re-open schools as such decision would put the life of students in danger.
According to him, health protocols to prevent the spread of the deadly virus could not be ensured in schools due to the high number of students and smaller classrooms.
Also, he said the school do not have the needed medical equipment to test the students on a daily basis in order to isolate those that have been infected with the virus.
“Social distancing is not possible in our classrooms and the situation would be worse in the boarding houses due to the high number of students”, he said on Kumasi based Nhyira FM.
According to him, supervision in the boarding facilities would almost be impossible, noting that the virus would spread fast in such conditions and put lives in danger.
The National Coordinator of Catholic Teachers Association reiterated his warning on parents and guardians against pressuring government to re-open schools.
According to him, the latest that schools could be re-opened would be in September this year.
