A LARGE number of food crops planted in farms, have been destroyed in Kwaman, in the Sekyere Central District of the Ashanti Region.
This unpleasant development has popped up following the invasion of the area by some herdsmen, suspected to be of Fulani origin, who are in charge of huge number of cattle.
The cattle so the animals freely graze into private farms and destroy crops.
As a result, a number of innocent farmers have lost their only source of livelihoods.
Surprisingly, the security agents, who are mandated by law to provide security and ensure law and order, seem unconcerned about the continuous nature of the menace.
Some of the farmers in the area complained bitterly to the paper, lamenting that they were being maltreated and threatened in their own land by foreigners.
The farmers have therefore charged the security agencies, especially the military and the police, to come to their aid to help save their farms and lives.
The District Chief Executive (DCE) for Sekyere Central, Kwadwo Bediako Banahene, has confirmed the report on Akoma FM in Kumasi, and said an action would be taken very soon.
According to him, the security agencies were aware of the destruction being caused by farms by the cattle so they would take swift action in the coming days.
“I cannot disclose our security strategy to deal with the Fulani herdsmen and their cattle on radio. But it is a promise that the menace will end soon”, he said.
