SOME SIGNIFICANT changes have been made to the design of the Suame Interchange project in Kumasi, it has been announced.
Simon Osei Mensah, the Ashanti Regional Minister, said the crucial changes would make the project look modern and effective.
For instance, he said the height of the overhead of the interchange has been increased from its original 5 meters to 5.5 meters.
According to Osei Mensah, it has been realized that some trucks overload so their goods could hit the overhead, hence the late changes.
Also, he noted that some of the lanes of the road have been increase from two lanes to three lanes to ease the flow of vehicles.
Osei Mensah also said Rango Construction, contractors of the project, would construct eight local roads before the project starts.
“This is to make way for car to divert especially when the interchange project starts to prevent traffic”, the minister disclosed.
He was briefing journalists when he toured the Kodie Camp Site of Rango Construction on Tuesday to assess the contractor’s readiness for the project.
Osei Mensah said barring any last minute hitch, the drawings for the project would be completed in two months time for works to start.
According to him, the project would last for 36 months so there is no way that it would be completed before December 2024.
He therefore appealed to Kumasi residents to exercise patience, stressing that the Suame Interchange would become a reality.
