Charlotte Osei Lands ECOWAS Appointment
Ghana’s former Electoral Commission Chairperson Charlotte Osei has been appointed deputy head of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) pre-election mission to Nigeria ahead of the country’s 2019 polls.
The mission is led by Mohammed N’fah Alie Conteh, Chairperson of the Electoral Commission of Sierra Leone and will stay in Nigeria between 1st and 15 November.
According to reports, they will visit several cities across the country Nigeria with the objective of meeting with all the stakeholders involved in the electoral process, including candidates, the media, leaders of political parties, administrative and electoral authorities; and development partners in order to assess the state of preparedness of the upcoming polls.
The Mission are also expected to visit some key cities outside of the capital city Abuja. Nigeria which is the biggest economy in West Africa goes to the polls on February 16, 2019.
Charlotte Osei Appointment has Exposed NPP’s Government – Asiedu Nketia
General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has said the new role of the former Chairperson of the Electoral Commission, Mrs Charlotte Osei as a Deputy Head of the ECOWAS pre-election mission to Nigeria has exposed the NPP’s government.
According to Asiedu Nketia, the appointment of Charlotte Osei by ECOWAS proves the competence she earned as the EC boss to conduct free and fair elections during the 2016 polls.
He said she [Charlotte Osei] was one of the most competent persons he has ever met despite her dismissal by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and the government.
