‘Chop Kiss’ Anglican Priest Sacked

Rev. Fr Baltharzar Obeng Larbi alias ‘Father Ricky’, the Anglican Priest who was caught on video kissing a number of female students of the St. Monica’s College of Education in the Ashanti Region has been relieved of his post as the Chaplain and Lawyer for the Institution, authorities have said.

Meanwhile leadership of the Anglican Church, Ghana has said it is saddened by the news and has therefore begun investigations into the circumstances leading to the kissing saga.

The Church has given an assurance that the action of the Father Ricky would be dealt with in accordance with the norms and values of the Anglican Communion where morality is extremely revered.

Father Ricky is seen in the now viral video, fully dressed in his cassock while standing by his holy pulpit and kissing three students of the school one after the other.

Some civil society organisations say the priest should be prosecuted in accordance with Ghana Education Service’s (GES) anti-sexual harassment policy.

The Africa Education Watch, a civil society organisation, has petitioned the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC) to investigate the incident.

An organisation calling itself Modern Women of Wisdom (MWOW) has also called on the Anglican Church, to sack Ricky over the kissing saga.

The group, in a statement, said: “We condemn in the strongest possible terms, this abhorrent public display of perversion”.

It added: “This is a clear case of sexual harassment and we deem it profane and unacceptable!”
