In a remarkable display of faith intersecting with social responsibility, the Church of Pentecost in Obuasi Area, under the leadership of Prophet David Kankam Beditor, has taken a proactive stance in addressing the challenges faced by the mining industry in the Obuasi area.
Recognizing the pivotal role that the mining sector plays in the local economy, the church has been organizing a bimonthly meeting of all mine workers in the Area, aiming to invoke divine intervention for the prosperity of AngloGold Ashanti its related contractors and the broader Obuasi community.
The meeting, which was chaired by the Prophet, and assisted by five ministers in the Area was organized on Thursday 9th May 20204 from 6:30pm to 9pm brought together members in the mining industry consisting of workers of AngloGold Ashanti, contractor workers of the mine, expatriates from Obuasi to other mining companies outside the country and some CEOs of companies who are related to the industry.
The Prophet speaking on the topic “Leading an extraordinary life to transform your industry” laid down some things that extraordinary people do in a bit to achieve the transformation they seek. He mentioned that extraordinary people are driving by vision, the vale and respect time, make good use of every opportunity, educate themselves in readiness for opportunities and keep the right company of friends.
The church’s initiative reflects a deep understanding of the multifaceted issues plaguing the industry, including environmental concerns, fluctuating gold prices, and security challenges. By interceding on behalf of the mine workers and the company, the church is not only seeking spiritual blessings but also emphasizing the importance of ethical and responsible mining practices that benefit all stakeholders.
The prayers focused on wisdom, guidance, and protection for the company, as well as peace and harmony within the community, highlighting the church’s commitment to both spiritual and earthly stewardship.
He admonished the members to lead a life as shining example by exiting all negative vices to become a model of transformation required in the industry.
This approach by the Church of Pentecost is a testament to the influential role religious organizations can play in fostering positive change within industries and communities. It underscores the potential for religious faith to act as a catalyst for transformation, encouraging a collective effort towards sustainable and equitable development. The church’s engagement with the mining industry serves as an inspiring example of how faith-based organizations can contribute to the dialogue and action necessary for the betterment of society and the environment.
The district minister Bedieso District in Obuasi – Pastor Vincent Ephraim Amegah led the congregant to pray for the mining industry in Ghana, for the success of AngloGold Ashanti, its contractors and workers and the safety of all in the industry.
