Cocoa production gets boost in Ashanti
COCOA PRODUCTION in the Ashanti region is set to experience a boost, the paper can confirm.
This follows a presentation of 3,000 fresh Cocoa seedlings to the Asante Monarch, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, by Agricultural Manufacturing Group (AMG), the largest importer of fertilizer in Ghana.
Otumfuo, who is marking his 20 years on the throne, is to distribute them freely to Cocoa farmers in the region. Several bags of ‘Cocoa Nti Fertilizer’ were also presented to the king.
Isaac Opoku Berchie, Commercial Manager of AMG, said the fertilizer would serve important purposes for farmers, stressing that government’s “Hi Tech” fertilizer policy would without doubt boost Cocoa production in the country.
“They will prevent diseases, make the Cocoa beans heavy and help to increase Cocoa yield in general”, he said.
He expressed the confidence that Ghana would surely attain its target of one million tonnes of Cocoa production this year.
AMG was established ten years ago, and is the 2019 major partner for the government’s Planting for Food and Jobs policy.
