As part of its support to Cocoa growing communities, Cocobod has commissioned a six-unit classroom block at Agona Abosomase in the Central Region.
The six-unit classroom block is to augment the already existing one.
Speaking to Citi News during the commissioning of Abosomase Anglican Basic School, Emmanuel Opoku, the Chief Executive Officer in charge of Operations at Cocobod, underscored Cocobod’s commitment to supporting cocoa growing areas.
In 2001 through to 2006, Cocobod in collaboration with the Ministry of Employment and Social Welfare conducted a lot of surveys in cocoa growing areas to assess the effects of child labour.
“We saw that education was the only solution to ending this menace, the reason for the building of schools in all cocoa growing areas,” the CEO noted.
“We have plans of also completing the dilapidated roads, and part of our core mandate to these communities” Emmanuel Opoku hinted.
The District Chief Executive for Agona Abosomase, Hon. Dennis Armah Frimpong, said the Assembly is working assiduously to get investors to build additional schools in the area to support Cocobod.
According to him, they would sensitize parents in these communities about the importance of education and the need for them to enroll their children into schools.
“We will talk to parents to enroll their children into school,” the DCE indicated.
He again indicated that the Agona East District Assembly is also ready to support the various schools in the district with desks and other educational materials to improve teaching and learning.
“We will support the various schools in the district with educational materials as an assembly,” Dennis Armah Frimpong noted.
